After soaking in the scenic drive and stunning views, your first tasting experience kicks off with a Beer Tasting Paddle at a selected local brewery such as Brouhaha Maleny. Here, you’ll enjoy a selection of the Sunshine Coast’s finest brews, ranging from crisp lagers to rich ales, all crafted with local ingredients and a dedication to quality. This tasting introduces you to the vibrant beer culture of the region and sets the perfect tone for your day of indulgence.
After enjoying the scenic views and a refreshing Beer Tasting Paddle, we hope that you’ve worked up an appetite because the next stop is a treat and a half! It’s off toward Maleny for lunch at King Ludwig’s German Restaurant & Bar, where the team will give you a warm welcome. Grab a verandah seat because the views across the Glass Mountains are spectacular!
You don’t find many authentic German restaurants in Australia, never mind the Sunshine Coast, so tuck into Bavarian specialties, washed down with your pick of German beers. The range is extensive so you might find it difficult to choose. Try DAB Dortmund or Altenmünster Marktoberdorf from the Helles range.
If you prefer a Pilsner, go for the Radeberger Dresden or Weltenburger Pils but there are also smoked beers, wheat ales, and Original Kölsch to sample. Don’t forget to check out the specials board for the current guest beer. By the way, it’s not all bratwurst – veggos and vegans have their own delicious menu. Lederhosen optional.
For those wishing to sample some of Sunshine Coast’s finest Craft Beers with lunch, as an Alternative lunch venue, Brouhaha Brewery was Born out of necessity and raised in the Hinterland of the Sunshine Coast. Brouhaha Brewery and Restaurant adopts the principles of its hometown, Maleny. Embracing community, a slower pace and fresh local produce in how they brew their craft beer and create their seasonal menu.
After enjoying a hearty lunch, take a deep breath and unwind at Gerrards Lookout, where the sweeping views of the hinterland provide a peaceful pause in your journey. It’s the perfect spot for a quick photo and a moment to appreciate the stunning natural beauty. This serene stop offers a chance to recharge before we continue to the next delightful experiences on your tour.
After enjoying the views at Gerrards Lookout, make your way to Flame Hill Vineyard for a relaxed wine-tasting experience. Here, you’ll sample a selection of wines crafted from locally grown grapes, each reflecting the unique climate and soil of the Sunshine Coast hinterland. Whether you prefer crisp whites or bold reds, the vineyard’s scenic surroundings create a beautiful setting to savour the wines. It’s the perfect stop for wine lovers and those wanting to enjoy the region’s winemaking traditions.
After enjoying the wine tasting, there’s no rush. This is a chilled-out tour, so we don’t prise you from your lunch and throw you into the minibus for your next stop. There’s plenty of time to rest and digest, but don’t get too much of that after-lunch and wine sleepyhead feeling because the last stop on your Wine, Beer & Whisky Trail is upbeat and back-to-the-50s. Rick’s Garage at Palmwoods is a Sunshine Coast institution, and you’ll soon see why.
It’s the real-deal retro diner, with vintage cars and bikes outside and, inside, vintage rockabilly memorabilia (yeah, try saying that after a few beers) and 1950s decor just for the fun of it.
Converted from an old petrol station and auto workshop, Rick’s Garage is a perfect way to end your beer and wine trail, because, this time, it’s whisky. Upstairs at Rick’s is an outrageous whisky bar open Fri, Sat & Sun, with over 70 varieties waiting for you as well as some house-infused whiskies doing their thing in oak barrels.
As the day draws to a close, you’ll leave with great memories of local flavours, stunning scenery, and a truly unique Sunshine Coast experience.

We had a great private tour with Peter. The tour was varied stopping at a waterfall and other good vantage points of the beautiful Hinterland countryside for pictures. Peter had lots of local info and the tour included wine tasting, schnapps and a filling meal at a German restaurant followed by more drinks at another bar. A good way to sample the lovely area of the central Sunshine Coast.
Great trip, Driver was brilliant and wonderful to be able to sit up front to see the sights on the way
